Safeway has made history as the first grocery store chain in Maryland to offer $4 generic prescription drugs. Now, consumers will have another option besides stores like Wal-mart, Target, and BJ’s Wholesale Club to buy prescription drugs at the $4 price. The $4 generic prescription drugs will begin being offered today. Over 300 of them will be $4. Though many consumers will surely appreciate the cost savings, how beneficial this is to individual consumers depends on whether the generic drugs they need are on the list.

Where is the $4 list?
$4 prescriptions are supposed to be even for medicines that treat common conditions like diabetes, heart conditions, thyroid conditions, and asthma. I don’t know that there is a published list online at this time. I haven’t seen one. I guess the best way to find out if a certain medicine is on list is to call your local safeway pharmacy, find the nearest location at http://shop.safeway.com/superstore/default.asp?brandid=1&page=corphome. If anyone knows of a list of the $4 prescriptions online, send it over and I will publish it on here! I’m sure it would be useful to a lot of people.
