One winner will be chosen based on a tasty recipe submitted. Send as many recipes as you’d like – just one recipe will win the gift bag! The winning recipe along with the winner’s first name will be posted at What’s New in Maryland. So share a great recipe with Maryland for a chance to win an OLD BAY gift bag!

The recipe submitted must not be one on the OLD BAY website. Make it your own; you can even describe why it is delicious, an occasion to make it, what makes it a good Maryland recipe, etc. Be sure to list all ingredients used and in what amount, as well as clear steps others can follow to make the dish.
The winner will be chosen no later than July 10th and announced no later than July 31st . The winner should have a mailing address in Maryland. If the winner does not respond by email within three days, a new winner will be chosen.
OLD BAY Seasoning Turns 70
On Saturday, June 13, 2009, OLD BAY Seasoning will be celebrating its 70th birthday at Camden Yards. What’s more Maryland than OLD BAY Seasoning on seafood? Happy Birthday, OLD BAY Seasoning!
The first people at least 15 years and older at the stadium for the Baltimore Orioles vs. Atlanta Braves game will receive an OLD BAY mallet. Before the Orioles game, a large cake that models the container of OLD BAY seasoning, a yellow and blue can with a red lid, made by Baltimore’s Charm City Cakes will be presented. Sounds like a celebration!

New Dolphin Show at Baltimore Aquarium
The National Aquarium in Baltimore has a new dolphin show. On Sunday (today), there were four dolphins taking part in the show — waving, jumping, and of course splashing (not to mention other tricks). Really cute!

Maryland Home & Garden Show Coming This Weekend
The Maryland Home and Garden Show is here this weekend March 6-8 and next weekend March 13-15 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. The show will feature over 400 home improvement exhibitors in areas like landscaping, lawn care, gardening, cooking, interior design, and family recreation. On Saturday, March 7th, Warren Brown, known for his Food Network show, Sugar Rush and business, Cake Love will be available to meet with fans at 1pm.
March 13-15, the Orchid Show and Sale arrives.
General admission is $10, $9 for seniors, $3 for children between 6 and 12, and free for chldren under 6 years old. Parking is free.
Harvest for the Hungry Spring Food Drive March 7-14
The Maryland Food Bank’s Spring Food Drive is here March 7-14.
Put a bag of food out by your residential mailbox during the week of March 7-14 and representatives from the Baltimore Area Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, or U.S. Postal Service will pick it up and take it to the Maryland Food Bank. This service applies to all residences in Maryland, but there are also drop-off locations that include Safeway stores, post offices, and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage offices.
The food will be given through the Maryland Food Bank to over 900 soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries across the state.

Winning Business Plan Gets Cash Prize
Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) will be having a contest for new businesses (less than two years old) in Maryland, DC, or Virginia that are at least 51-percent women-owned.
Enter the contest known as the 6th Annual StartRight! Women’s Business Plan Competition by submitting an executive summary and $25 entry fee to Rockville Economic Development, Inc. by March 29, 2009. Full business plans must be submitted to Rockville Economic Development, Inc. by April 1, 2009. For details on what should be included in the business plan, click here. Semi-finalists will be contacted to present their plans before a panel of judges.
First Place: $10,000 sponsored by Eagle Bank
Second Place: $5,000 sponsored by Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy, and Ecker, PA
Third Place: $2,500 sponsored by Foster, Soltoff and Love, Ltd.
Brightline Media, Intelligent Office, and Montgomery County Department of Economic Development will be offering additional benefits in addition to the cash prizes.
REDI will also be offering free business plan seminars on writing (Wednesday, March 11, 2009) and presenting (Wednesday, April 8, 2009) business plans at the Rockville Regional Library at 21 Maryland Avenue from 9am to 12pm.
